Travel Journal No.1 : Design

The drafts and sketches of the first few ideations for the travel journal, which is a combination of curiosity + senses , traces of a city + hidden spaces. It will be a travel journal that consist of a few activities which I will use for the exhibition in korea and also consider it to be one of my studio outcomes. The travel journal will contain photographs, objects, sketches, imprints etc.

The first idea of the cover for the travel journal, I wanted to keep the design simple in black and white to tie in with the first outcome so they will look like a series. So I tried overlaying the logo and text on a black and white photograph.

The space on the left would be the first page after the opening of the book, it is a slot to put the traveller's photo and also to write down his or her personal details. So this booklet would be a personal belonging to him or her.

Two activities that will trigger the traveller to heighten his usage of his hearing and smell to observe, then to document and think of what it reminds him of.

Activity on the left encourages the traveller to collect things, packaging of what he has bought or a wrapper of something he has consumed. The object can also be an interesting graphic object that can be kept for design inspirations.

A tracing activity that involves touch by using the old school tracing method.

On the right, an activity that requires the traveller to imprint what he has consumed into the circles, then write down the name of the food and how it taste like.

A few pages of the booklet contains an activity where the traveller will need to take picture of something that he is curious about and found it interesting. Then ask questions about it and use it to generate ideas that can be linked to design.
