What is flat lays? Well, according to fashion bloggers this is what it is :Use a white background: “Photograph your items on a flat white surface,” “This is the best way to show the true colours of the items you include in your flat lay.” Tip! If your carpet isn’t pearly white, try placing a smooth, crisp sheet on the floor.
Make a square: “Try to fit all of your items into one large square – use the outside edges of the items to create lines,” says Bruton. She also recommends layering items to create an interesting look. “Try and place a necklace on top of a t-shirt or a pair of sunglasses on a skirt,” she suggests.
Fold your pants: While it might sound strange, folding your pants is key to achieving the square flat lay shape and balancing proportions in the shot. “Fold them in half vertically and then fold them up at the knee,” advises Bruton. “You will still capture the style of the pants without them appearing size 100″.
Experiment: Move your objects around and try different combinations. “Photograph each layout and choose the best one when you get to the editing stage,” says Bruton, who admits you don’t always get it right first go. “It’s about trying to find the best balance between the colours and shapes of the pieces.”
Get creative: “You can pull inspiration from anywhere; magazine editorials, street style snaps, artwork, photographs, music or fashion trends,” says Bruton, who also recommends naming your flat lay looks to help launch ideas and narrow their scope a little.
Just some reference and samples of what flat lays are, but of cause I won't be sticking to the "rules" made by the blogger. I choose to use flat lays for the video of the app function simply because I have been using flat lays for some outcome in my first few outcomes. Also, since there is not much of movement and do not require to take different angles or shots + the app functions and switching of screens is the main focus for this video.
There are two ways of doing a flat lay, either super tiny and neat as if you have obsessive compulsive disorder or make it more natural like how our desk are normally like, the objects are scattered around. But I would like to experiment with both, and will use the one that portrays the best.
