Rework : Pocket Diary

For outcome 3, I redesigned the pocket diary. In order to make this the kit look more standardized, I changed the look of the diary and to make it less plain as previously it was just a white logo on a black leather cover. I also designed it to be bigger but still at a comfortable size to write and draw inside.

The design for the external flap on the outer layer of the diary, it will be in front of the cover so that it can cover the foreword passage which will be revealed when the participant flips open the diary.

As for the cover, I redesigned and printed in on tracing paper. Because tracing paper gives the mysterious feeling as it reveals some parts and hide some parts which makes people curious about what is underneath. Hence with that intention in mind, I changed the cover of the diary to the design which is found on the disposable camera and the pen so that it looks like a whole set of kit.

The foreword will be right after the cover page, after the participant flips over the first and second page, the foreword passage will be exposed. It will be a mandatory page and it gives a rough idea of what the design issue is about.

Right after, it will be the steps that will let the participant understand how this kit and diary works. It will allow him/her to snap a picture of anything that they are curious about or they find interesting. Then, document the frame number and location for reference, and they will concentrate on their five senses and jot them down in the library. Also, to include what inspired them and they can doodle in the box below. This diary becomes a personal documentation but later it will be shared with other designers and also be an inspirations them. People will also see the same things differently and they can inspire each another by having a different perspective.

The purpose of this outcome is to allow a designer to take time off and go on a curious adventure with this kit that can help them document the sounds they hear, what they see and how the feel about it. Taking photographs are important and an ideal way because they serves as reminders and sparks a memory of a moment they had before. The photographs and notes can be an inspiration to the curious designer himself or for others when they share the photo and views.
